Zeitgeist Movie

Yesterday I decided I would watch the Zeitgeist movie after reading a post about the movie. I had to clear some time off my schedule to watch the on-line movie because it is almost two hours long. What did I think? I’m glad you asked. I will give a general summary and then share my thoughts.
The movie is broken down into three parts, or theories, on Christianity, 9/11, and International Banking and the Federal Reserve Bank. Be warned these are theories steeped in conspiracy. In order to make it through, I had to be VERY open-minded to even make it past the first half hour (if you do watch it, skip the first seven or so minutes, its just instrumental, doesn’t add to the movie at all).
Act 1: “The Greastest Story Ever Told”
The movie suggests that Christianity, the Bible, and Jesus are all based on astrology, Egyptian religious figures, and several other pagan “potpourri”. The story of Jesus’ miracle birth is described as being a plagarized story from any number of religious gods ie. Horus, Mythra, Krishna, etc. All of these and several others according to the movie had similar miraculous occurances surrounding their birth, life, deaths, and in most cases resurrection. Also, the movie suggests that Jesus never existed and all the stories about him are in fact about astrology. The sun, which is central to ancient astrology, is equated to the story of Jesus in many facets. One of those facets is Jesus is literally God’s Sun. When the sun starts to go through the winter months, food supplies dry up and freeze, and “death” starts to the creep in. This time is a desolate time for ancients and  they look to the sun to start ushering in warmer climates so that “life” can begin again. Miraculously ;) , on December 25th the sun actually starts this climb back higher into the sky. So Jesus, God’s Sun, is born on this date (every year). During this time three stars from Orion’s belt line up with the some sun’s birth. The name of these three stars you may be asking? The Three Kings (Wise Men). There are too many other suggestions made by the film dealing with Christianity, Jesus, and the like, to be made here. Watch if you want to see the others. My thoughts on this act. First, there is very little  support for the claims made (and the other Acts). There is plenty of theory but very little facts presented. The sources on the movie home page are very hodge podge and not very academically recognized. My first thoughts were that the facts presented seem very “cut and paste”. Take a little from here and a little from here and Voila! here is the answer to life’s questions. I believe that this would make good discussion starters but little else.
Act 2: “The 9/11 Myth”. The movie expounds on some thoughts that have circulated since Sept. 11th. Were the Bush’s conspiring with the bin Laden’s over several years? Were the WTC buildings 1, 2, and 7 detonated by explosives and not by planes? Building 7 was not even hit by a plane, why did it fall? The 9/11 commission seems to glide over important facts and in fact covers some up, does it? Of the three acts in this movie, this one has spirred my curiousity the most. I will comment further after I have spent some time investigating. Of course it is too over the top. If the movie creators could have spent some more time on this act and left the other two out completely, I would take it more seriously. The acts don’t really go together and I think this makes me less certain of the claims made.
Act 3: “The Men Behind The Curtain”. This has been in conspiracy theories archives for a long time. I remember being real young hearing about “One World Goverments”, “Implants by governments to enslave their societies”, etc. I think that again facts are too scarce for true academic thought. I think it would make a pretty good book plot. If you could take what Dan Brown does and mix just enough facts with a huge portion of fantasy and sell a million copies.
If I had to guess, this movie was made by people that have been hurt by the church and the federal government. I don’t know for sure what led the producers to make such a movie. I can guess, but that is all it will be. Watch the movie if you want to. Don’t watch the movie if don’t want to. Either way, no harm done but be warned, again, these are theories by those that believe in conspiracies. You must consider the source.

Re Act 2, I must admit that I was very impressed by a website I looked at quite a few months ago that investigated the events of this day, and very carefully re-examined what little evidence there was with the pentagon attack, and their conclusion was that it was hit by a missile, and not a plane. They put forward a very convincing argument!

Well, at least the way you said it all was tasteful. I really feel that you need to stop discrediting the film by using a sladerous word such as “conspiracy.” We all know that once you use that word it changes people’s perspective (uneducated americans and the like) and can furthermore be seen as more of a combative term than anything else. The film is credible, and i dont care how long you look at it, the bible is a rip off of not only egyptian religion but the many that preceded christianity as well. People are scared to die, people cannot explain death, we used to need explainations for the sun and the seasons… we now know these things and death should not be feared. I do not blame our ancestors for making up these religious myths to protect their world psyche, but there comes a time when we need to accept the rigidity of the natural world and its causes. We turn to dirt when we die, get over it. As far as the 911 part, anyone who has done any research has heard it all before, and it was CLEARY an inside job by our government. People need to wrap their head around that and think for themselves and stop the blind trust that got us into our current predicaments. Furthermore the third part I believe was relevant and needed to pull it all together. Explaining the power structure of our government is crucial to understanding how our government could have possibly justified their manipulation on september 11th. And as far as the religious tie-in to part three, it explains where the ideology came from for people in power. Crusades etc. If everyone in at least America could see this film and watch it through the end with an open mind, maybe we could stop the ignorance that is ravaging our country like a virus. At least I know that the European countries will be much more receptive to this documentary. i.e. education structure

    clarke,
Thanks for your comment. I can appreciate your opinion on this movie, but, just like my blog entry, its an opinion, we all have them. I respectively disagree with your atheistic view of religion. I believe there is something after death, you don’t, neither one of us knows for sure, no need to argue about it, but thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts.

Great movie, clearly shows how major wars are foiled for profit… and how people profit from them. Every opinion is backed up. I find it ironic that I have always called religions ‘great stories’. Evolution has been proven, religion has not.

It is always the ones who are filled with religion who find the truth so uncomfortable to accept. I have always felt that organized religion was / is the major snow job, a ruthless fallacy of our time. How otherwise reasonable individuals could so readily buy into the utter nonsense that religion presents, is both astoundingly unfathomable and quite scary. Scary, because those whom have invested their lives into this fairy tale, are now the ones with the most power to lead, and look at the mayhem and untold human suffering that has been left in their wake. Need proof? Look no further than the idiot in the White House, the leaders in Israel, and most of the other countries in the Middle East. These are places run by theocrats. Majority of them are also places that one who loves life and fellow human beings, would not be wise to visit, because of all the bloodshed, suffering and the cheapness of human life, that one would most likely witness, in abundance. Thanks to the most divisive philosophy ever visited on mankind – religion.

The movie is obviously true as is every aspect of it and no matter how afraid you are to admit where the world is heading if you decide to sit down and do nothing about it dont complain when the movie comes true, in all honesty i had an incident when i was 10 and was in a comma for 3 months in that time i had dreams of buildings exploding and many other things such as conversations between me and my family the divorce of my parents the death of my good friend and me moving to florida, these have all came true and another dream i had? well ofcourse bush planning 9/11 when i saw this movie i cried all night long because the movie was an exact copy almost of my dream whil i was in a comma, im not a psychic but i can swear that these things will happen.

Although it’s fun to blindly believe this stuff…you gotta stop and think a minute and do a bit of un-biased research. I’ve watched “Zeitgeist” and I’ve read opposing viewpoints. I’ve watched “Loose Change” and read Screw Loose Change. For the most part, conspiracy theory is an accurate description “Zeitgeist”.

Oh, and one time I was in a semi-colon and dreamed I was hosting the new “Love Connection” and Chuck Wollery was very angry with me!

’skip the first seven or so minutes’ Why? So as to miss the bit about the invisable man in the sky who wants money. No, that would have any relevance would it!

No, skip the instrumental beginning that takes about seven minutes.

OK fair enough. But then isn’t that simply following the general movie template – built the expectation? Actually you may be right, it may well have left your average dumb wit bored by then causing them to switch off.

i like reading the replies to posts regarding Zeitgeist the move. I think the replies in favor outnumber the disbelievers at least 10-1.

finally the infromation age is spreading the truth rather than this bullshit religions and goverments and the media spreads. Perhaps the majority do think alike and movies like this are making enough people think for themselves rather than believe the shit we are told to believe.

sorry but i believe in reality and i aint putting any faith in a book (the bible) that blatantly plaguerises tales before it and i certainly am not putting any faith in the likes of Bush, who interestingly uses the bible when it suits his cause and stomps all over it when it doesnt.

make your own mind up – do your own research, its not hard to find the truth.

I think that this was a very credible movie and it came across to me as very well researched. Those behind it must be quite passionate about these issues because you don’t have to buy the movie to watch it. Its free to watch and they make no money off of it. It seems they just want people to know the truth.
As for the religion part, I can’t say it didn’t make me think and I can’t say it didn’t cause me to doubt religion. But my fear is that religious people will not believe anything the film says simply because it makes them doubt their religion and they may find it offensive.
I think that the creators of this film did make some very good points about religion, but I don’t think that part was well-suited for this film. I think that it could have made a better film on it’s own because of the fact that the film could lose credibility among the religious masses, which means there is a large group in this world who will not believe any of the other things presented in the rest of the film, and that concerns me because we need to be informed of things like the chip implants, the 9/11 conspiracy, and everything else on which the film touches. Let the religious masses watch the other parts of the film, and then let them decide if they want to see the religious portion of the film.
I think if the creators want to convice people that religion is a crock, that would have been a better way to do it. Because once you get the attention of the religious people about 9/11 and chipping people and you back it all up with good evidence and facts, maybe they would be more willing to watch the religion part and then they may be more likely to believe it.
When telling people about the film or showing it to my friends, I feel it is necessary to warn them about the first part and to keep an open mind. Its their choice if they decide to remain religious, but I don’t want the first part to spoil it for them.
I tell people about this film all the time. I believe it is important. Its probably the best, most informative, and most thoroughly-researched documentary I have ever seen. When it comes to good, solid facts, it surpasses any Micheal Moore film ever made, and that’s coming from a big fan of Micheal Moore’s films.
I wish I could personally thank the people who made this film. They have done a great public service. I believe everyone must see this film.
